Chapter: Chapter 3: mirrors, strange dreams and a prophecy.

Mirrors, strange dreams and a prophecy.

  • "...Nevermind, at least you're safe" says the priest, "I wish you could have done it without vandalizing a motorbike, though". The vampire tries to justify himself: "Yes, but... I was scared and I had to think fast and--" but the man cuts him off: "Which brings us to the next question: why was he after you?" The vampire sighs. "He... caught me at Hawthorne's place." The priest doesn't seem pleased. He leans forward, an disappointed expression on his face: "So you failed to retrieve the information we needed?" The vampire crosses his arms, annoyed: "I didn't fail! I found the diary. But it took me longer than expected". He shows the diary to the priest and opens it: the pages are covered in weird scribbles. "Everything was written in that blasted Theban alphabet, which wasn't easy to decipher... especially in a rush". The priest stares at the diary, eyes wide: "OH! I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I'm glad you succeeded".

  • The vampire looks away, as he starts recounting the events of the last few hours: "I... yes" he admits, confirming that he did, in fact, destroy the tires of Adrian's motorcycle. "See, I had almost reached the woods, Then that drunk guy saw me... and started to scream like I was going to kill him!" As he speaks, flashes of what happened in the cemetery go through his mind: Aaron seeing the vampire and starting to scream, the vampire rushing to cover Aaron's mouth and accidentally getting his hand entangled in the young man's necklace, the necklace breaking as Aaron pulls away, then Aaron, Adrian and Tyresias looking for the vampire in the cemetery. "...And that's how I ended up with not one, but three people on my tracks!" the vampire continues, "I reached the secondary exit, but I was still afraid the hunter would notice and follow me... It was too late until I realized that what I did would make him stuck here even longer". The priest looks at the vampire, raising an eyebrow in disappointment. He doesn't say anything, but the vampire seems to understand the message: "Yes, yes, I know. Worst plan ever".

  • The cemetery. A figure dressed in black walks among the tombstones. He stops, then turns to look around: it's the vampire we already met at Arthur Hawthorne's place. He seems confused, as if he's looking for something... or someone. The research doesn't last long, however: a voice coming from a crypt startles him: "You're late". He looks at the direction where the voice came from: A dark skinned man leans against one of the colums of the crypt. He's also dressed in black, and a roman collar can be seen around his neck: a priest. "Oh, there you are!" says the vampire, "I'm sorry, I had some... difficulties". "The hunter?" asks the priest. The vampire looks worried: "You saw him? I-is he still around?" "He left several minutes ago, don't worry", the priest reassures him. He looks at the vampire, a concerned expression on his face: "I'm guessing that trick with the tires was your doing?"

  • "...But we didn't" the girl eventually admits. "And I don't think I have enough words to thank you for trusting me tonight". "No need to thank me" the boy smiles, "I knew you could do it. And I'm proud of you for succeeding". "Are you? For real?" she asks. The boy starts slipping under the covers and lets out another tired smile "Isn't the whole reading thoughts thing supposed to be mutual? You know I could never lie to you". "I just wanted to hear you saying it again" she says. The boy rolls to the side and closes his eyes with a sigh: "Go to sleep, Regan. If we want those plants, we'll have to get up early, tomorrow". "Alright" she agrees, "goodnight... Tyler".

    3.7 – Thank you

  • "Sometimes I forget that you can read my exact thoughts" says the girl, as the boy lies down on the bed, "so how about making it easier for us both and simply telling me the truth?" he asks. The girl hesitates, but then starts explaining: "I just.. didn't think it would happen again. I mean, it was shitty and I thought I was going to mess up and get us killed or worse, but... I needed it. I needed these... emotions once again" "Which is why you aren't completely mad at me" the boy says. "I AM!" she screams, making him frown "IT WAS A HUGE RISK THAT WE TOOK! WE COULD HAVE DIED!" "But...?" the boy asks, a playful smile on his lips.

  • The boy covers his ears, angry: "You don't need to blow my ears off, damn it!" "You did the same earlier!" she says. "Only to warn you!" he replies back. A small flashback: back in the cemetery, Tyresias is hiding behind some bushes. Adrian's voice can be heard from the other side: "You there, freeze! If you try to move, I have some silver bullets for you. And-" a scream only the girl seems to be hearing interrupts Adrian's sentence. It's the voice of the boy: "IT'S A BLOODY HUNTER! AND HE'S GOT A GUN!" The girl can be seen covering her ears with her hands: "Ouch! I hear you!" - Back to the present, the conversation moves on. The boy is now looking at the window, towel on his head to dry his hair: "...Anyway, it's not raining much now. We could go back and" a loud thunder interrupts him. "...Forget I said anything. Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow". "That could be risky" the girl's voice says, but he replies: "Well, it's not like things tonight were much easier..." "Right" she admits, "you have yet to thank me for saving our arses, by the way". The boy looks up, smiling and raising a brow: "Actually, weren't YOU the one who wanted to thank ME for-" but the girl's voice interrupts him "What? N-no! You must have imagined it!"

    3.4 – Forget I said anything

  • Tyresias picks a towel from the wardrobe. The boy keeps talking: "You know, if you hadn't called him a wasted hobbit, maybe..." "I was speaking the truth!" she replies. "That's what he said, too" he points out. "Except that I was right and he wasn't. I'm not annoying... am I?" "If you have to ask..." the voice says, playfully. "Why, thanks for the emotional support!" says the girl, as she starts taking her shirt off. Swirls of light can be seen around her: a shapeshifting spell. The conversation goes on: "Anytime, dear sis!" "Mph. And to think that I was going to thank you for... OH, CRAP!" the girl suddenly screams. "What?" asks the boy. The magic light slowly fades away. And when Tyresias turns... her body is not that of a girl anymore. The boy seems to have taken her place, while the girl, now turned into a reflection, stares at him from the mirror, annoyed. The boy doesn't seem to notice: "Do you think this skirt makes my bum look too big?" "WE FORGOT THE ACONITE PLANTS, YOU MUPPET!" she explodes.

    3.3 – Emotional support

  • "Sure, good job telling him the entire story of your life in five minutes" comments the voice, sarcastic. "Just the right parts. And it worked, you know" replies Tyresias, as she starts taking off her hoodie and walks towards her room. The voice won't budge: "...Or maybe he just got distracted by Mr. Baggins". "That... also helped, yes" she admits "God, did you see how drunk he was?" "Well, I'm not quite the right person to judge him" the voice says, "besides, I felt a bit sorry for him. Being abandoned like that by his friends... that's sick". "He probably deserved it" says the girl, as she lets the hoodie fall on the floor "He sounded quite like an arrogant asshole". She stops in front of a mirror. And the reflection in the mirror... shows another person right next to her. A boy with long, red hair, just like Tyresias'. His facial features are very similar to hers, too. A mischievous smile can be seen on his face: "That's just because he called you 'annoying pancake girl'". "...Among the other things, yes", replies the girl.

    3.2 – Good job

    Aug 02, 2021

  • A red car speeds down the road. A few moment later, the same car can be seen parked in front of a house in the outskirts of the town. Tyresias gets out of the car and slams the door. She approaches the house and, before entering, she looks around to make sure nobody is following her, eyes glowing in the dark. Once she's inside the house, she closes the door and leans against it, exhausted. "Phew! We made it! That was a close call, wasn't it?" says a mysterious, disembodied voice. She doesn't look pleased: "Yeah. Good thing I could calm him down. Had it been up to you, we would have been killed in a heartbeat".
