Character: Father Uriel

  • Jorn straightens up, attentive: "Okay. What's on your mind?" "You'll have to deliver a little message for me". The vampire smiles, excited: "You mean... THAT kind of message?" "Yes. It may not be the most common way to contact someone, but we need to act fast". "Alright" says Jorn, "you can count on me, Father Uriel. Just tell me what to do and I'll try my best". "Thanks, Jorn" replies Father Uriel, "I know you will".

  • The priest scratches his nape, slightly embarassed: "I do. And I owe you an apology. I should have warned you about him. He's also involved in this, after all..." The vampire still seems confused: "Yes, but on which side?" "He's on our side" the man explains, "he was in the old coven. We can trust him". The vampire crosses his arms and scoffs at him: "Oh, sure, if you're into the "shoot first, ask questions later" type, I guess..." The priest looks away, again embarassed: "Yeah, he can be a bit... hot-headed. But now that Hawthorne is gone, the Keeper will need a guide. And Adrian is the only one with enough knowledge and skills to do it. I'd talk to him myself, but due to some events in the past, things could be... difficult. Hence why I need your help again".

  • “You’re only just starting to see the differences between right and wrong again” says the priest, “but that still doesn’t give you the right to judge others". The vampire looks away, saddened and defeated: “Understood. It… won’t happen again, I promise”. The priest looks at him, a hand on his hip: “Jorn… you don’t have to make promises to me. What did I tell you?” “Words aren’t enough, change requires effort”. Jorn's eyes still don’t meet those of the priest: “I know. It’s just… hard to put in practice”. The priest smiles: “It’ll take some time. But I wouldn’t have asked you to help me with this if I didn’t think you could do it”. “I… I see. Thank you, Father Uriel”. “Don’t mention it. Now, about Adrian—” “Who?!” the vampire interrupts him, confused. “The hunter” the man explains. “You know him?!”

  • "What happened, then?" asks the priest. The vampire looks away, now answering. "He's dead, isn't he?" the priest continues. Slowly, the vampire starts to explain: "T-there was a lot of blood in the house... I tried to resist, but--" "You couldn't" the priest finishes the sentence for him. The vampire stares at the man, angry: "He was a MURDERER! And he would have used his tricks to turn yet another innocent kid on THEIR side! It's not a big loss!" "He that is without sin, let him cast the first stone..." quotes the priest, looking at the vampire. He winces, turning his head away: "Urgh! A-alright, I was just..." "I know what you mean", says the priest "but it's not up to us to decide the fate of another living creature. Not like this". The vampire looks down and plays with his gloves, embarassed: "I... right. I'm such a hypocrite, aren't I?"

  • "What about Hawthorne?" the priest asks, as the vampire puts the diary back into a pocket of his coat. "Gone. I was too late". He runs a hand through his hair, slightly embarassed: "I really wanted to... I mean, I tried to get in, but..." "It's not your fault, Jorn", says the priest, saddened, "we knew it was going to happen, even if it's still bad news. Anything else to report? Did Kane give you a hard time?" Once again, the vampire looks away. "Ah, he... no. No trouble at all". "Any news about the Keeper?", the priest goes on. "Nothing we didn't already know", says the vampire, "the kid will be here next week". "So the Lowells truly have no idea what's going on... what else? Did the police arrest Kane?" The vampire shifts his weigh from one leg to another and plays with the sleeve of his coat, not looking at the priest in the face: "Uh... not exactly".

  • "...Nevermind, at least you're safe" says the priest, "I wish you could have done it without vandalizing a motorbike, though". The vampire tries to justify himself: "Yes, but... I was scared and I had to think fast and--" but the man cuts him off: "Which brings us to the next question: why was he after you?" The vampire sighs. "He... caught me at Hawthorne's place." The priest doesn't seem pleased. He leans forward, an disappointed expression on his face: "So you failed to retrieve the information we needed?" The vampire crosses his arms, annoyed: "I didn't fail! I found the diary. But it took me longer than expected". He shows the diary to the priest and opens it: the pages are covered in weird scribbles. "Everything was written in that blasted Theban alphabet, which wasn't easy to decipher... especially in a rush". The priest stares at the diary, eyes wide: "OH! I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I'm glad you succeeded".

  • The vampire looks away, as he starts recounting the events of the last few hours: "I... yes" he admits, confirming that he did, in fact, destroy the tires of Adrian's motorcycle. "See, I had almost reached the woods, Then that drunk guy saw me... and started to scream like I was going to kill him!" As he speaks, flashes of what happened in the cemetery go through his mind: Aaron seeing the vampire and starting to scream, the vampire rushing to cover Aaron's mouth and accidentally getting his hand entangled in the young man's necklace, the necklace breaking as Aaron pulls away, then Aaron, Adrian and Tyresias looking for the vampire in the cemetery. "...And that's how I ended up with not one, but three people on my tracks!" the vampire continues, "I reached the secondary exit, but I was still afraid the hunter would notice and follow me... It was too late until I realized that what I did would make him stuck here even longer". The priest looks at the vampire, raising an eyebrow in disappointment. He doesn't say anything, but the vampire seems to understand the message: "Yes, yes, I know. Worst plan ever".

  • The cemetery. A figure dressed in black walks among the tombstones. He stops, then turns to look around: it's the vampire we already met at Arthur Hawthorne's place. He seems confused, as if he's looking for something... or someone. The research doesn't last long, however: a voice coming from a crypt startles him: "You're late". He looks at the direction where the voice came from: A dark skinned man leans against one of the colums of the crypt. He's also dressed in black, and a roman collar can be seen around his neck: a priest. "Oh, there you are!" says the vampire, "I'm sorry, I had some... difficulties". "The hunter?" asks the priest. The vampire looks worried: "You saw him? I-is he still around?" "He left several minutes ago, don't worry", the priest reassures him. He looks at the vampire, a concerned expression on his face: "I'm guessing that trick with the tires was your doing?"
